Today marks the 80th anniversary of the George Washington Bridge.
The world’s busiest crossing spans the Hudson River between New Jersey and New York City. It opened on this date in 1931 and a second lower level was built in 1962.
To mark the occasion, motorists will see the world’s largest free-flying flag on the bridge’s New Jersey tower and the bridge’s two towers will be illuminated at night.
